Career Criminal Frank Castro, Victim of A Cold Killing In PG
posted (April 23, 2015)
In the mid to late 1990's, the name Frank Castro was notorious; at the time police said he was a criminal terrorizing the countryside with the brothers, Julian Bush, and Greg Casildo.

Since then he served 20 years in jail, and had returned to live in Indianville Punta Gorda. But tonight, the news is that the 38 year old was killed in Punta Gorda Town.

In an act which resembles the Belize city-style gang violence, he was gunned down at around 7:30 last night as he left a Chinese shop on Corozal Street. The Officer Commanding Punta Gorda Police explained via telephone what information they have so far:

Supt. Simeon Alvarez, OC - Punta Gorda Town
"Sometime around 7:40pm last night, the police received an information of gunshot being fired in the Corozal Street area, in the Indianville part of Punta Gorda Town. As a result of that they responded to the area and the information was that the person was already been taken to the Punta Gorda Hospital. The police then visited the hospital where they saw the lifeless body of Frank Castro, 38 years old, a resident of Punta Gorda Town with several gunshots wounds to the upper of the body on the left side of the body. What happened is that he had just visited a Chinese establishment somewhere in that vicinity and on his way on his bicycle after purchasing a case of soft drink, he was confronted by this gunman, who caused the injuries to him and he succumb to the injuries that he received. The motive of this crime is still unknown, however, we are following all different leads as to find out exactly what may have caused this incident to occur. We had detained several persons pertaining to the incident and so far we haven't gathered any close evidence to connect the person responsible for the shooting. He was recently released from prison in early 2013 after spending a 21 years at the Hattieville prison."

Viewers may remember that in 2013, Louis Farrakhan, the Leader of the Nation of Islam, visited Belize, and spoke with the prison population. The deceased, Frank Castro - who was in prison at that time - went up on stage that day and got an opportunity to shake the VIP's hand during the question and answer section of the presentation.

In the late 90's he and a group of men escaped from the Belize Central Prison, and were suspected for a string of crimes, including one murder.

He spent more than half his life in jail. His former accomplices both Bush and Casildo were also killed - Casildo by the police, and Bush by a Chinese Grocer.
