Second Victim From Medina Shooting Succumbs
posted (April 28, 2015)
Adding to the frightening spate of murders is 55 year-old taxi-man Egbert Hemmans. He was the driver who took 31 year-old Mark Medina to Iguana Street on Sunday morning. He walked right into a trap, and a gunman was waiting for him. He killed Medina and shot Hemmans in the chest and abdomen - the bullet exited his back - damaging his liver.

Hemmans sped off and drove himself to the KHMH - arriving there in a critical state.

Doctors did what they could for him, but he passed away last night at around 8:00 from complications due to his injuries. According to his sister, the doctors called her telling her that he went into shock and about an hour later he died.

Today police said that he was the victim of an unfortunate circumstance:

Supt. Hiberto Romero - OC, CIB Eastern Division
"Mr. Hemmans was pronounced dead yesterday around 8:20PM. That post mortem will be conducted sometime today."

Reporter
"What's the next step given now that, that shooting on Sunday has become a double murder?"

Supt. Hiberto Romero - OC, CIB Eastern Division
"We do not have anybody in custody for those murders. Our investigation continues."

Reporter
"We understand that a phone call was made during that murder or just before that murder happened. Is the police looking at phone records or anything like that to ascertain whether a call may have been made and these persons were lured to that location?"

Supt. Hiberto Romero - OC, CIB Eastern Division
"We are following up on those leads and if at the end of that investigation we manage to find sufficient evidence to charge anyone - that will be done. However, at this time we have not been able to charge anyone and we are following up on those leads."

Reporter
"Was police able to speak to Mr. Hemmans before his passing?"

Supt. Hiberto Romero - OC, CIB Eastern Division
"He was in a critical condition. He provide little information. Thereafter communication was lost and then he succumb to his injuries yesterday."

Reporter
"Would you say that Mr. Hemmans death was really just - he was at the wrong place and the wrong time when he was killed?"

Supt. Hiberto Romero - OC, CIB Eastern Division
"He took Mark Medina to that area. I know he is a taxi driver and that is what occurred at that scene."

Daniel Ortiz
"Has police encountered him anytime in the past?"

Supt. Hiberto Romero - OC, CIB Eastern Division
"The taxi driver, no we have not dealt with him for anything."

He was not married nor did he have any kids.

His family tells us that Hemmans, better known as Marty had a strict routine ferrying his passengers from 5:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the evening.

All accounts we've received suggest that Hemmans was a law abiding citizen and a hardworking taxi man who got caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.
