Minister’s Nephew Being Protected From Gun Charge
posted (April 28, 2015)
Earlier this month we reported on the boat accident near the municipal airstrip which left boat captain Romy Badillo critical. We also told you about the fundraising event that was organized by his family and friends to cover medical expenses. While the family advertised the event as being a fun filled one, there was one confrontation that changed the entire mood. Edison Usher better known as DJ Vintage came to our studios to tell us about a frightening encounter he had with another man at the fundraising event. Usher told us that he was setting up the sound system at the Hour Bar Field for the event when a man drove over his speakers wires twice. Usher told us he was only trying to dissuade him from driving over the wire by waving or signaling him to go another way but the young man in the vehicle took it to another level by pulling a gun. Here is Usher's account of what happened next.

Edison Usher, Had a gun pointed at him in public
"The reason why we're trying to divert things is because there's wires on the ground that damage the equipment and it's very expensive. He mumbled something, I didn't hear it too well because the breeze was blowing a little bit. At which time he reversed and I thought he was going to go, but he reversed about 10 ft. or so and he stopped. And my friend said 'that guy is still coming' so we kind of stood in the way and which a couple seconds later he sped up in the vehicle. He braked just at the point where he bumped me so I put my hands like this to stop the vehicle. So at that time I tried to walk around to the passenger side and asked him 'man what's wrong with you?' we're out here trying to deal with a fundraising and it's a whole atmosphere out here, you know. Everyone that is out here is trying to do some type of charity or something to give back to this man, you know. I knew Badillo from I was 10, you know, from a little boy. At that time I don't know if he was drinking or if he was angry at something or whatever the case might be. At that time he took out his gun and pointed it at me and told me to move the 'F' out his way. After the report was made, they took a week to make contact with this guy. After they made contact with this guy, I believe three days after they said they made contact, they called me and asked me for an ID parade. They said well they have the guy held and if I want to do an ID parade. We all ID this guy without any mistakes, just to find out the following morning that he was released. No explanation was given why he was released. The police keep telling us their going to keep in contact with us, they're going to update us or whatever. I did not get any update that this guy was even released or whatever or no explanation why he was released."

Usher made a police report more than two week ago but nothing has happened and he is demanding justice. Now, in such a case as this - especially when there are witnesses - police would be quick to charge for aggravated assault with a firearm. But it seems in this case there has been very deliberate foot dragging. And why is that? Well we can think of no other reason than the fact that the man accused of pulling the weapon is a relative of a UDP minister. We'll keep following the story - and pressing police for an answer.
