Island Trio Charged For Beltran Murder
posted (May 4, 2015)
While police must begin an investigation into Trujillo's murder, they believe that they have solved the murder of 42 year-old Jose Beltran, the taxi driver who was killed last week Tuesday. Those men are now at the Belize Central Prison.

As we told you last week, police have charged 23 year-old Luis "Sito" Campos, 19 year-old Mark Arzu, and 18 Santos Garcia with the crimes of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. They were arraigned today before Magistrate Sherigne Rodriguez. Due to the nature of the offence, no plea was taken, and they were denied bail. They will be brought back at a later date.

Today, San Pedro police updated us on that case as well:

Sgt. Lenancio Bol - Station Sergeant, San Pedro Police
"Three persons has been charged for the murder jointly. They will be arraigned this afternoon in the magistrate's court."

Alfonso Wiltshire - Concerned Taxi Driver
"To be honest with you, that is what is bothering a lot of taxi drivers, because these two gentlemen that has been unfortunately deprived from their lives, they use to be like the most calmest, humble guys and this is what is bothering us. Because like I said, I don't want to speculate. I am going there again. But these two guys - they were the most outspoken people. These guys were really not like people you would see doing any illicit stuff around the island. But what should I say? I don't know."

Reporter
"What kind of comfort will you give to the people of San Pedro? Assurance that the police is doing all within their means, to ensure that the island is safe?"

Sgt. Lenancio Bol - Station Sergeant, San Pedro Police
"Well, you do know that we start the 12-hour shift system, which is from 7am to 7pm - that continues. We do have an operation team that is up and running. Ever since the previous taxi murder, we continue to do the extra patrols. We continue to have the Special Branch gather the information. As they come along, we follow up on it, we do house searches. Concerned people have been calling in and we try to ensure that we act on all these calls. They have different places within different locations of San Pedro, that we believe that whenever people see strange faces, they would call the police. We go and then we do house searches and different things like that. So, we do have things up in place already for it."

Police are looking for 2 more men, one of whom has already been charged in absentia.
