New PUP Candidate Jones Got 182K From GOB Via Judgment
posted (May 5, 2015)
Lloyd Jones was yesterday introduced as a new, high profile candidate for the PUP in Belize Rural North. He has trumpeted himself as a man of unbending principle who is independent minded, and true to his convictions. But, he "kinda" dodged when the media asked him about a court case he had with the Government of Belize. Here's how that went:..

Reporter
"Last week we had an interview with Mr. Castro and we ask him about your standard bearer for the PUP in BRN and we ask him what he thought about your candidacy and he said that he is not at all moved and that you were actually a disgruntled UDP turned PUP and that you actually has some sort of legal matter before the courts with the United Democratic Party or with the Barrow administration. How do you respond to that sir?"

Lloyd Jones, PUP Candidate - BRN
"Well I am unfamiliar. You should have ask him that, what he was referring to, because I don't know."

And while the hecklers went wild - we did our checks and found that Jones was the recipient of a 182 thousand dollar court award for damages by the Government of Belize. The case relates to a two hundred and twenty-one thousand dollar contract that his company Zephyr Services won in 2012 for a project from the Ministry of Forestry, Fisheries and Sustainable Development to come up with business plans for eight protected areas. But even though Zephyr scored highest and won the contract - it seems someone pulled the plug on it - and he told the court, he was left in the lurch - having already made commitments and engagements to move forward. The court agreed and awarded him damages of 182 thousand one hundred dollars, with costs to his attorneys of thirty seven thousand five hundred dollars. The final installment of payments to Jones was made in March of this year. He was represented by Eamon Courtney.
