Kijel Killed On Partridge
posted (May 11, 2015)
There was a third killing which happened over the weekend, and this time, the victim was 19 year-old Kjiel Young, a resident of Partridge Street Extension.

It happened at about 9:30 on Saturday night at a number #45 Vernon Street, and not at Cox Tire Shop as was rumored this weekend. Young was sitting in a yard when he was approached an unknown gunman who shot him from behind. He suffered multiple injuries, and was pronounced dead on arrival. Today, the Commander of Police Precinct 2, told the press that investigators don't have much at this early stage:

Sr. Supt. Alden Dawson - OC, Police Precinct 2
"On Saturday 9th May, sometime around 9:30PM, police responded to a shooting on Vernon Street. Upon their arrival at #45 Vernon Street, they learned that one Kajiel Young, 19 years old was shot at that location. While he was seated in the yard, he was approached from behind by a lone gunman who fired several shots at him, which led to his passing away. At this time we do not really have a motive. The investigators are still on the ground at this time trying to establish a motive and at the same time in search h of a suspect."

Reporter
"You are not looking for anyone in particular?"

Sr. Supt. Alden Dawson - OC, Police Precinct 2
"The police are out there canvassing the area as we speak."

So, why was he targeted and killed in such a violent street slaying? Well, his family is just as puzzled as the investigators, and today his grand uncle told us that the gang style slaying is uncharacteristic of the young man he knew:

Clifford Broaster, Grand Uncle of Deceased
"I very doubt that he is the kind of guy to the way his came to him. I don't approved of that situation because as I said I know my grandnephew. He is a cool going dude. You could talk to him and he would listen to you. He has never cheat me off yet. I don't know if he had cheated off anyone else. What I dont know about, I can't really say. But what I know, I can express and like I said as far as know him, he is a very cool guy. You could ask him to do a favor for you. As far as I saw, he went to the fair and after the fair finished, he supposed to have gone home and so far he and someone was walking and they went that direction. And him being there for a while about half an hour after, they heard crying and thing, so it was surprised to me to see the way he died."

Daniel Ortiz
"You ever counsel him against hanging out on the street side?"

Clifford Broaster, Grand Uncle of Deceased
"Most naturally. We counselled him and we made him understand that after school hours, this is not a base if you don't know who you are hanging out with. I think before you go hanging out with a person, you need to know the person you are hanging out with. If I can't get to know the person, then it's useless I hang out."

Young recently finished high school, and he worked with the crews which upgraded Vernon Street. His uncle told us that he was in the process of looking for another job.
