Fishermen Fined For Conch
posted (May 14, 2015)
4 fishermen from Chunox (Shunush) village in the Corozal District must come up with a total of $20,000 dollars in fines after they were taken to court for a large amount of undersized conch.

They were busted on last week Thursday, when a fisheries officer went to Northern fishermen Cooperative. They managed to fish the illegal catch and bring it to the mainland, and when the officer inspected their landed product, he found that each conch they caught were undersized, weighing less than 2 and three quarter ounces.

53 year old Leandro Rangel was then charged for 195 undersized conch. He was joined by 39 year-old Isidro Pott, who allegedly had 265 undersized conch, and 38 year-old Mike Rangel, who allegedly had 98 undersized conchs.

They were arraigned today before Magistrate Ladonna John, and they accepted guilt for the illegal fisheries product. They were all given fines to a total of $20,000, which they must pay by November 15, or they will be jailed for 1 year.
