Man Narrates Scary Home Invasion
posted (May 19, 2015)
There is another armed home invasion to report, but this one happened in Ladyville yesterday at the Hendy family home, in broad daylight.

Margaret Hendy is a well-known food vendor who sets up her operation in the vicinity of the PGIA compound. Yesterday, her brother, Nick, dropped by her house to do some yard work for her. He was splitting wood that she intended to use for her fire hearth cooking.

He was at the house alone working when the intruders descended on him. Today, he described in detail for us how armed masked gunmen cut through the fence, held him up at gunpoint, tied him up and then ransacked the house:

Nick Hendy, tied up by burglars
"I decide that I got a big task here, so I better get busy. Right away I grab the axe and went over there and start to work some wood with this axe and in a minute or so while working about the third piece of wood, I heard the back fence and I decided to take a check. But at the time my axe was stuck in the block, so I felt like someone stoop down and I stoop down too and begin to peep, but I held on to the axe. When I look, this person jumped up and had a rag tied around his face and he was in a black pants and camouflage jacket and a mask around his face. He ran up with the gun and then I started a thing with him and the axe. Finally, he told me that I don't put that down, we will put me down, or leave me here to rotten. So, I decide 'alright boss, I give up.' He then pulled over and tried to get me in my shirt where another struggle started to ensued, until the gun ended up in my ears. So, I told him that I will comply and he took me to the back and put me to the ground where he shouted a name to the bushes and another man came out and I saw two more walking towards me. I said 'oh my God, I am going to die.' The man said that I am going to live, unless I didn't comply, he was going to leave me here to rotten. I saw one of the guys with a cutter, cutting a hole in the fence. They ran at the back door and I was already apprehended and tied up. My mouth was tied and I could just hear them at the back door. I could hear the draws slamming upstairs and after a while, the noise seem to cool down, so I believe I could make a move and try to get myself untied as quickly as possible."

"How did they tie you up sir?"

Nick Hendy, tied up by burglars
"They tied my hand behind my back. They tied my hand to my legs and pull them all the way up to the middle of my back. They tied me through my mouth and tied my head back way tied to my feet. I was in a backwards slump position and I couldn't move the way I want. But due to my physical-ness and when I was young, we use to play tie - so I manage to maneuver myself and get to where I could get an object to try to cut my feet from my hand and then lose my mouth. My feet was tied together and my hands were at the back, I did a bunny rabbit jump. I believe they were still upstairs with the gun, so I decide that I got to take another minute to try to get the feet loose so that I could run - about 40 steps to be out of the shooting range. I then sat on a machete and push my legs back and forth until I get those cut. When I got those cut, I untie my feet and I ran to the neighbor who was near at his gate."

"Do you have an inventory of what all has been taken?"

Margaret Hendy
"Yes, I did as soon as I came home. Actually they hadn't went with any appliance. My appliances were intact; my television and electrical appliances were intact. The only thing I noticed missing was a tablet for my son. That's about it. Basically, I think they were looking for cash or jewelry or whatever I don't have in the house. I guess they were very disappointed because I don't have such in the house."

Margaret Hendy says that she's had to deal with a break-in before, and this time around, just like the last time, she is upgrading her security.
