posted (May 26, 2015)
It was a major incident that police never reported to the press, but today, the case went to court and we found out all about the armed robbery at M and M's engineering at mile two and a half on the Phillip Goldson Highway.

It was a major heist which happened on Friday afternoon at 3:30 where almost $10,000 dollars in cash and another ten thousand dollars in cheques were robbed at gunpoint. Employees were also robbed of various personal items and cash but a quick police response led to the arrest of a teenager and recovery of most of the cash.

This evening, 19 year old Fredrick Smith, a laborer and resident of #18 Racoon Street Extension was arraigned in Court #5 before Magistrate, Ladonna John.

He was slapped with 6 counts of theft, 5 counts of robbery and one count of damage to property.

The 22 year old Office manager told police that two men entered the office, one of them brandishing a silver handgun, and snatched up 6 envelopes which contained about 9,500 dollars cash that had been set aside for various suppliers. The gunman then snatched the manager's cellphone, and they then strode through the office grabbing cell phones from the other staffers.

Police quick response led to the apprehension of Smith who was found in a room of an unfinished upstairs concrete house located at the corner of Pride and Grace Avenue. He admitted to taking part in the robbery, led them to the manager's stolen cell phone and also led them to another house, where they got back nine thousand, one hundred and 12 dollars. And, more than that they also got the name of his two accomplices, who are now wanted men. In court, Smith pleaded not guilty to the charges. He was unrepresented and due to the nature of the offenses, he was denied bail and remanded to the Belize Central Prison.
