Twenty Two young athletes represented Belize and when the event was over, Belize won a total of 8 medals – including 1 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze. The group returned home yesterday by road – and after getting some needed rest, 7news caught up with the Athletes at the Marion Jones Stadium.

Shanicka Augustine - Gold Medalist

"It was a lot of competition but I did my best and I came in first in the triple jump, second in the long jump and third in the 100 metres."

Monica Bodden

"Tell me, were there any challenges?"

Shanicka Augustine

"Yes, a lot. Especially with the 100 metres because they were very fast but you just have to do your best and go all out because at the same time you are thinking about your country and bringing home so that they see Belize has talent."

Monica Bodden

"Tell me a little bit about getting prepared for this event because you did exceptionally well - so you must have put it a lot of work."

Shanicka Augustine

"So far as getting ready for it, we had to work out every single day. In the morning at 6 o'clock, in the evening 4 o'clock. Our coach the Cuban man, he barely understands English but he's always like fast, fast! So we work out very hard."

Ashantie Carr - Silver Medalist

"I didn't do my PR but it was good because the competition was not that easy, so I was kind of satisfied. We actually had our Cuban coach came in to help us with the competition onwards for 6 months. So he helped me prepare for this."

Ashanti Carr – Track Athlete

"I got 4th in the 800 metres out of 12 persons and I got 6 out of 10 in the 400 metres. This was my first time actually doing the 800 metre out in Central America. I just needed the experience how to set myself."

Shanicka Augustine placed gold in the Triple jump, while Ashantie Carr took silver. Augustine also placed Silver in the Long Jump Category and Bronze in the 100 meter. Kellsea Ward and Erickson Clarke took silver in the Long Jump, while Darnell Odena and Aaron Young placed bronze in the Triple jump.
