Mena Going to ‘Pan, But Staying Grounded in Griga
posted (July 9, 2015)
And as a reward for his strong showing, it was announced today that Mena will be made Minister of State in the Ministry of National Security. He will be sworn in as a member of Cabinet by the Governor General tomorrow.

And while he's going to Belmopan, last night in Dangriga at around 9:00 when the result was official, he said it's all about keeping close to his hometown:..

Hon. Frank "Pawpa" Mena, UDP Representative - Dangriga
"Listen to me, I will give it my best shot. There are nothing that really frightened me in this world Jules because I come from humble beginning and I will give it my best shot, because my people believes in me and I have to deliver and if I can't really deliver to my people, I am willing to come to my people and have them understand that this is a fight I can't win and I will keep with my people to make them understand that we need to win this together."

"You see too much things separate us in Dangriga and we have to have the conversation Jules and maybe, politically I am not saying the right things, but we have to have the conversation because at the end of the day it's about my people and I am not going anywhere from here. I will stay right here. It might be kind of rough, but at the end of the day it's about here."

Hon. Dean Barrow, UPD leader
"Naturally we are all very thrilled, very pleased. I do think that this is a positive referendum result for the government. We are of course conscious that success requires additional effort. The burden of expectation increases. We will do our very best to bring more progress to this particular constituency of Dangriga, Hope Creek and Sarawee."

"637 strikes me as quite a thumping vote of confidence in the government and that's what I am concern about, so I am completely satisfied. It's a large margin and I feel absolutely thrilled about the size of the victory."

Jules Vasquez
"Do you feel that you were perhaps unfairly in an unfair race, in terms of going up against a government with the full muscularity of all its resources a hand?"

Anthony Sabal, Losing Candidate - PUP
"Well when you look at politics, that's a part of the game. You can't cry about what is fair or unfair. It is what was legal. It was legal to call the bi election. It was legal to have the candidates and it's legal to have the elections and the people spoke. And if the people decide that it's Pawpa Mena, then we all accept that. At the end of the day as I said my neighbor is a member of the United Democratic Party, I am a member of the People's United Party - that doesn't mean we lose respect for each other. Tomorrow we just rise again as Dangrigana or as citizens of Hope Creek and Sarawee."
