What's going to happen next in the PUP? Well there certainly is widespread discontent with the party and that became obvious from an internal email that came across our newsdesk this morning. It is from Jose Pepe Garcia, the Husband of PUP Deputy Leader Dolores Balderamos Garcia. He gripes very openly about a quote "awful letter" written by a standard bearer. He laments that the party is, quote, "shooting ourselves from within." But Garcia boldly calls for a purge. He says, quote, "The PUP tree is shaky, maybe that's why the hierarchy do not want to shake the tree anymore, but I say we must shake until all the rotten apples fall off the PUP tree. Only then we shall probably stop being in opposition and regain our dignity.."
And while Garcia is calling for the rotten apples to be gone, Deputy Leader Julius Espat in a fecebook post today said, quote, "the PUP is poised to form Government with Francis Fonseca as our next Prime Minister." That is a familiar chorus, but certainly not one that everyone in the PUP is singing right about now. And for those who doubt, Espat lays out 5 options for those who oppose what he calls reality. He says they are either:
1. Hard core UDP supporters
2. Agents within the PUP who are financed by the UDP
3. So called leaders who put their self interest above the people they represent
4.Paid political activists in general that oppose any and everything.
5. Those who cannot deal with or refuse to accept Rule of Law, accountability, transparency and Good Governance.
Of course, point #3 seems to refer to those within his own party who boycotted Tuesday's meeting of Standard Bearers and National Executive members. We know that Certain pockets of discontented standard bearers have been holding meetings to discuss a way forward for the PUP.
