Sing A New Song

A week ago, we told you about the start of the National Song Competition, the event held by the National Celebrations Commission which marks the beginning of the September festivities. For the entire week, the judges have been touring the country to see music men and women perform their original songs. In the end, for this Friday night's finals, they've chosen 9 artists to compete against each other in the National Song Senior category, 7 artists to compete in Carnival Song Senior category, and duet of young siblings to compete against another junior in the National Song junior category.

In total, these musicians are competing for $32,000 in cash prizes, and so today, they were all gathered at the Bliss Institute for Performing Arts, as sort of a workshop and an opportunity to meet the press.

The session started off with the organizers explaining to the artists what to expect on the night of the finals, and how this week's rehearsal and preparation will work. First, they got a bit of advice from National Song veteran, Nello Player, who will sit this one out to be a judge. Here's how that conversation went:

After that opening ceremony, we got a chance to meet 13 of the 18 finalists, which included a few familiar and well-known faces, as well as a great number of new comers. Here's what they had to say about the impending competition:

The final competition starts takes place on this coming Friday at 8 p.m. It will be broadcast live right here on Channel 7.
