A Tale Of Terror In Teakettle
posted (August 14, 2015)
A mother and her daughter in the Cayo District are fearing for their lives after a man threatened to kill them at their home. Last night at around 10:30, 23 year old Jenny Baide was with her mom at their Teakettle home when they heard the dogs barking outside. When they checked they saw a man hiding behind their neighbor's vehicle in the yard. We spoke with a shaken Jenny Baide about the frightening encounter that followed.

Jenny Baide, Pulled a machete to defend herself
"We had an intruder in our home. Well, he trespass in our yard by jumping the fence and it was so scary because it's just me and my mom and as females we have no one to defend us. So I had to do my next best. He came from through the back of the fence. He jumped in the back yard. He came around but we heard the dog barking. It's the little Chihuahua inside the house. So that alerted us. I actually saw a shadow at my window. My window is the middle room and I thought it was just my mind. My mom came up and said no she saw someone. So we cut off all the lights. So if we looked out no glare in the house would affect our vision but when we looked through our kitchen window, we saw nothing. so, I said maybe...this window right here so I thought I was practically seeing nothing but when my mom opened my window the intruder was stooping down behind a vehicle that was park exactly where we're standing and I got scared. So I did the next best. So I ran and the house for a knife and by the time I came out it was so fast. Everything was happening so fast. He came up. He was cursing at my mom. He was cursing because I went to watch in his face. I got a good look at him and I know him. His eyes were much dilated. So I know he was on drugs or he was doing some sort of drugs as I said and by the time he was cursing and he saw I had a knife, he ran at that fence. It broke when he climb up because I stoned the knife at him. I almost caught him. I'll be honest and by that time he came. But when I looked beyond another person was on a bike in full black. They were both in full black but I didn't see the other person. The other person dropped the bike and fled directly through the bushes. So it was so dark, we couldn't see who the other person was but because it looked like his bike he came back for the bike. so when he came back I was here cursing, I was yelling because I was so scared then he got the courage and he came to the fence and he was cursing and saying I look stupid, yelling at him doing this and I tell him but you were in my yard. Oh it was my dog but my dogs were asleep. My dog wasn't offending no one. They were asleep. Yes one of the dogs alerted us but by the time that happened another neighbor came trying to calm him down but he went to come back in the yard. So I went inside for a machete and I chased and I was going to chop him and by that time the neighbor who lived upstairs came down with his gun, his licensed firearm but by them he was trying to calm him down but I was so scared that I was going to hurt him so he fled. He went. By that time my mom came out. There were conversing with the neighbor across and he came back with a machete."

"So this is the 3rd time..."

Jenny Baide
"He came back to harm my mother. If my mother didn't run behind a vehicle and she fell because when he meant to chop her she fell and she scraped but it was attempted murder. So my mom would have got a chop in the head. The fact that this is happening constantly in this village, I'm feared. I have to sleep now with a machete at each door, a knife on my bedhead. I don't know what. So I'm scared and I'm alerting the public because I want them to know that this village isn't safe anymore."

Baide told us that the man threatened to return in 3 weeks to kill all of them. Baide and her mom have been renting downstairs for a year. Residents say that the man renting upstairs is related to the notorious Hyde family and they believe that he was the target. Baide also told us that the police took too long to arrive and that when they did they just let the man run off and started to take statements from them. When we spoke to Belmopan police today they told us they know nothing of the incident. Now Baide and her mom are planning to move out of the house as soon as possible.
