Addy Castillo Says Chinese Dominating Import & Wholesale Business
posted (August 21, 2015)
Earlier in the newscast, you saw our interview with Addy Castillo, the matriarch of the Santiago Castillo business empire. It was a rare chance to talk with Mrs. Castillo who - as far as we know - has never given an interview. We used the opportunity to ask her about the present state of the business environment. Castillo took over the family business, after her husband Santiago Castillo died in 1983. She ran it up until the early two thousand's when she handed over day to day operations to her daughter Lorena, But, even at the age of 81, she still remains very involved at the board level and is still the boss of the family business. She told us that the commercial landscape is tougher than ever:

Jules Vasquez
Seeing so many things change in your sector of the business world over the years, would you say that the business environment is better, worse, easier, harder than it was say 30 years ago when you first took over?"

Addy Castillo, Matriarch, Santiago Castillo Ltd. "Well Jules, we must accept that business has not been easy at all. There is much more competition in our business and I am sure you know that. The Chinese are taking over Belize when it comes to our type of business and to fight them it's not easy. But guess what, we are not going to throw the towel and we are fighting them and we are going to be very successful."

The Company Santiago Castillo Ltd is 89 years old.
