Overdid Overtaking, Caused Two Lives To Be Lost
posted (August 24, 2015)
10 days ago, we told you about the terrible accident between Miles 6 and 7 on the Phillip Goldson Highway which killed 2 men. Well, the man who police say is criminally responsible for their deaths is 24 year-old Ethon Belisle, a resident of St. Pauls Bank.

Police charged him with 2 counts of manslaughter, 2 counts of causing death by careless conduct, 1 count of driving a motor vehicle without due care and attention, and 1 count of improperly overtaking a vehicle that was in front of him. Due to the nature of some of the offences, no plea could be taken, and when he was asked for his plea for the others, he pled not guilty. He was offered bail of $7,000, and his case was adjourned until October 28.

Police say that on that Friday evening, in thick snaking traffic after the Haulover Bridge, Belisle was overtaking vehicles on his way to Ladyville when he made a bad decision and followed a vehicle that was in front of him. That vehicle managed to squeeze back into the correct lane in time, but Belisle was not so fortunate, he crashed his Mercedes Benz car head on into a white pick up truck. 52-year-old Alden Rudolph Locke and 30-year-old Shane Goff were passengers in the pick-up truck, and they died on the spot from the impact.
