Tonight, 2 owners of Belize City bars are in trouble with the Immigration Department after allegedly being caught with for illegal immigrant workers.
They are businesswomen Rexis Mejia, owner of Long Island Bar, and Mora Mejia, the owner of La Catracha Bar. The Immigration Department says that Rexis Mejia was employing 3 persons without a valid work permit, and Maura Mejia employed 4 persons without a valid permit.
When they arraigned before Magistrate Ladonna John, they both pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of $6,000 each. They must return to court at a later date.
