Hit and Run Hilton Needs Help
posted (August 24, 2015)
Tonight, the family of another accident victim, Hilton Conorquie, is asking your help to donate blood so that he can get important medical surgeries for the extensive injuries he suffered in a hit and run accident which happened on Saturday, August 15.

He was doing some work at the Mile 8 Community on the George Price Highway, and that's when he was hit by a driver who ran him over and fled the scene. He's suffered massive injuries to his legs, and right now, the doctors need to repair the damage. But, because the blood bank needs blood in order to keep him alive during the procedures, they aren't prepared to conduct the surgeries as yet.

Today, we met his family at the KHMH, and his sister made the impassioned plea to try to convince those of you who are of O-Positive blood type to donate a pint on Conorquie's behalf. Here's how she described it:

Therese Leiva, Sister of Accident Victim
"He got into a hit and run accident last week Saturday."

"What is his situation now?"

Therese Leiva, Sister of Accident Victim
"He was to do surgery from last week Thursday. They asked us for 7 pints of blood. Well we tried to get as much as we can to get the blood. So far we came up with 3 pints of blood. We got 2 from the bank and we owe the blood bank 2 pints of blood, which is a total of 5 pints. They say that Friday he was to do surgery. They wheeled him out of the theater because they say he doesn't have enough blood. So I call BDF and KREM Radio and they assist us with some blood. So far, my uncle donated one and we got 3. We owe the bank 2 pints of blood."

"This morning I brother gave me a call and told me that he was going into the theater this morning. I went up there this morning to see if he went for surgery. When I reached there, my brother told me that he cannot do the surgery because they say they cannot find the original paper copy of the blood. So I did a copy. I have the copy right here to show to let them know that we already donate the blood. We would like them to please do my brother's surgery as quick as possible, because that is my brother. He is 36 years old. He got his two feet broken and his hands. My sister Ingrid is concerned, because she want them to do the surgery as quick as possible. We would like the person that do that, to come forward. I got to understand a while ago - the police came to us and told us that they found somebody that gave a statement. We hope that he comes today and speak to the family, especially my sister Ingrid Conorquie and myself Therese Leiva. My number is 668-0636 and my sister one is 601-5917."

Anyone interested in helping the Conorquie family can contact them at telephone numbers 668-0636, and 601-5917.
