Can Jaguars Rebound From Loss To Canada?
posted (September 7, 2015)
Right now, the Belize national team is trying to recover from the 3 goals that the Canadian National Team scored against them on Friday in Toronto. The Canadians got 26 shots, while Belize took only one - and that kind of sums up an outing that was primarily defensive for the Belize side.

But what will happen when they play tomorrow night at the FFB Stadium in Belmopan? This afternoon, Assistant Coach Charlie Slusher told us that the goal is still to make it to the 4th Round of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers:

Charlie Slusher, Assistant Coach - Belize National Team
"I think tactical wise we watch all the teams, the Canadian team we knew what they would have brought for the game and exactly how the Canadian played is how we expected them to play. Now on our end we practice how to counter that and we started the game with the right approach pressing from three quarters of the field, but later we fell on our half defending our half and we know that as long as we do that we would be in a lot of problems because that's the strength of the Canadian team. They play a lot of long ball, they load up in your box and if you allowed that to happen, then you will get hurt. So I think we really didn't execute our game plan and I think the simple answer to why we did not really play the way we should have is that we didn't execute our game plan going into that game."

Daniel Ortiz
"So what changes will be made for tomorrow and realistically do we keep hope alive that we can still make it to the 4th round?"

Charlie Slusher, Assistant Coach - Belize National Team
"Well we have 90 minutes and as long as you have a game to play, you have hope. If that was the one game and we were over, then. But we have hope. We have another game and we have to believe that there is a chance. It takes one goal at a time for us to advance and if that's the case, that's our aim. We cannot just believe that we are already out of this. We are at home, we scored 3 goals against Dominica Republic the other day and we believe that at home we can make a big difference and we can get some goals."

"Again, we are positive. We are not thinking about getting a draw or just maybe win 1-0. No, we are thinking about advancing still. We still have hopes."

Nana-Yaw Amankwahmensah - Midfielder - Belize National Team
"Football is a game of possession and Canada had most of the possession of the game during the game, which made it more difficult for us. But that's pretty much the reason why we weren't able to attack. I think we will focus more now and look to have more possession of the ball here in Belize."

Evral Trapp, Defence - Belize National Team
"We just have to stay focus and go out there and play the ball for 90 minutes and attack those guys, because we are home and we got the confidence and now we can do far much better than the first game."

Daniel Ortiz
"Do you think they underestimated us?"

Evral Trapp, Defence - Belize National Team
"They don't underestimate us. They just come out and play ball and the way the attack us, they attack us a lot, but we just have to stay focus for 90 minutes and keep possession of the ball and we have to advance the ball in their half."

As we told you on Friday, the Jaguars have to win tomorrow's match by 4 goals to advance to the next round.

Kick-off for that second match is at 7:00 p.m., and it will be broadcast live right here on Channel 7.
