Coast Guard Officers For Contraband Extortion
posted (September 9, 2015)

So, while those officers are being investigated for the disappearance of the three seamen, 3 more are in trouble after being arrested and charged with extortion.

CTV3 News reports that six days ago, on September 3, Ricardo Rivero, a resident of Consejo Village in Corozal, reported to police that he was bringing 10 cases of contraband beer from Mexico into Belize through the Bay of Chetumal. He was intercepted by a team of Coast Guard officers, and according to Rivero, they demanded money from him, and agreed to look the other way as he transported his contraband. He paid the men and then went on his way, and he reported the incident as soon as he could.

Police allegedly conducted a sting operation and caught the 3 Coast Guard officers with an undisclosed amount of cash. They are 25 year-old Leslie Staine from Belize City, 32 Dubian Montero from Bullet Tree Village in Cayo, and 19 year-old Rayliee Usher from Hattieville. CTV3 reports that they were all arraigned before a Justice of the Peace, and they were offered bail of $1,000 each.
