Faith Nazarene Opens, Students A No-Show
posted (September 14, 2015)
On Friday, we told you how classes were supposed to resume today at Faith Nazarene Primary School in San Ignacio. That's because the teachers and embattled principal, Policarpia Pech, came to a compromise on how to handle the professional differences of opinions. Well, everyone showed up to work thinking that it would be a normal day only to find out that a vast majority of the students were kept home by their parents.

Now, for this school year, 411 students have been enrolled for classes. So, when teacher took attendance of the children in their classes, they surprised to find that in each class, from the infants level all the way to standard 6, only 10% of students showed up. When the attendance for the entire school tabulated, the Administration and Management found out that only 105 students, or 26% attended classes today.

So, why didn't the school have full attendance? After all, the teachers agreed that the students needed their school days, and they couldn't maintain their strike against the principal because that would hurt the children in their care most of all.

Well, it appears that majority of the parents refuse to soften their hardline stance that they took in solidarity with the teaching staff at Faith Nazarene. General Manager Raymond Shepherd told us this evening that he was informed that a group of parents staged a protest in front of the school sometime this morning.

He is urging the parents to carefully consider the detrimental effects to their children because of the missed classes. He's also asking them to send their students tomorrow because classes will take place as per normal as they should have happened today.
