Police Raid Down On George Street
posted (September 14, 2015)
Police have the suspect for that crime in custody. He was caught this morning on a pre-dawn raid in the George Street area. Now, just 10 days earlier, Southside Commander Chester Williams was in that area on a community meet and greet. But this morning the only thing greeting residents of George Street were GSU clubs and guns. 12 People were rounded up - and residents say many more were roughed up. So, is this passive aggressive police behavior? Williams said it's not the GSU going rogue; he fully sanctioned the operation and for a very good reason:..

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams - OC, Eastern Div. Southside
"The reason why we descended on George Street today was because over the past three weeks, every shooting we have had on Southside Belize City came from the George Street area. Those persons on George Street who are involved in the criminal activities and out there shooting at people who are trying to make a difference in their life, then we cannot tolerate that. And as I've said before, once that happen, we will come at you with full force. That was exactly what we did this morning. We had elements from the MIT the GSU and the special patrol units and that operation was sanctioned by myself. It is a part of the effort that we have been doing on south side Belize City whereby we have said that we are going to work with those persons who work with us. And those who do not want to work and continue to perpetrate criminal acts then we will deal with them the hard way. So George Street are the recipient of the tough style this morning. We went in with full force and we have a number of persons from George Street detained in custody. During that operation we were able to apprehend the person who did the shooting, the one involving, Mr. Debride. And we also apprehended another person who did another shooting, in addition to those persons who were detained for two separated shootings, we also confiscated one fire arm and over 500kg on cannabis. There is no breach of anyone's constitutional rights for which they can sue us for as a result of the operation that took place this morning."
