Verdes Victory
posted (September 23, 2015)

Belize's Verdes FC scored a major upset in the Scotiabank Champions League last night when they beat the Sab Francisco club out of Panama two one in a trilling game at the FFB Stadium. Many thought Verdes would be deflated after an 8 to nil thrashing in the thin air of Querretaro last week – but they rebounded like champions. San Francisco scored in the 12th minute but Super Striker Deon McCauley scored a header into the left corner of the net in 18th minute past Panama's goalie Alex Rodriguez.

McCaulay had a chance to take his team into the lead with a penalty in 39th minute, but his ball hit the crossbar and rebounded back into play.

Nearing the end of regulation, in the 88th minute MCCauley got his revenge when two San Francisco players were in fornt of the goal, but the ball reached Deon, whose immediate right foot shot put it into the empty net to put Verdes up for good 2-1 in the 88th minute.

So, with that Verdes FC posts the first ever win in CONCACAF Champions League, first ever 4pts for a Belizean team in CONCACAF Champions league in Belize's football history!

They go back to Panama for the return match in mid October.
