posted (September 24, 2015)
There was a fatal traffic accident at mile 2 on the Phillip Goldson Highway - around 4:30 this morning. A Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV was travelling towards Belize City when the driver lost control and rammed into the cement fence at Jose Shoman's residence.

Trapped inside the extensively damaged vehicle was the driver 35 year old John Gordon - who appeared to have died on impact - and his passenger Jamilia Arnold - who was trapped in her seatbelt and screaming for help.

It took the help of neighbors, police officers and the fire department to rescue Arnold in just a matter of minutes. Her injuries are classified as minor.

Gordon sustained severe head and body injuries and died on the spot when the SUV was actually enfolded unto itself.

Police believe speed may have been a factor and told the media more today in a press briefing:..

Supt. Linden Flowers - Officer in Command, Precinct 4
"Around 4:20 this morning, Thursday 24th September, my police from precinct 4 here responded to a traffic accident on the Philip Goldson highway around miles 2. On arrival they saw a Mitsubishi Endeavour SUV that collided into the fence across from the gas station, that's the Puma gas station. Investigation by the police led them to see that 2 persons were trapped inside the vehicle. A male and a female. When the aid of fire department and another person assisted, they remove the female and then the male was eventually removed from the vehicle as well. The lifeless body of the male person found to be mister John Jeremy Gordon was transferred to Karl Heusner where he was pronounced dead on arrival. He suffered severe head and body trauma."

"What is the condition of the female?"

Supt. Linden Flowers
"Her condition is pretty stable and her injury is classified as minor. Nothing life threatening."

Reporter
"Do you that individual?"

Supt. Linden Flowers
"Yes the female is Jamilia Arnold who is since undergone medical treatment."

Reporter
"Have you all been able to ascertain what caused the accident?"

Supt. Linden Flowers
"Exactly what caused the accident I cannot say at this time? My investigators are on the scene and I visited the seen and I did not see any skin marks there early this morning. We know that it was raining. Basically it was a thunder storm and there was water logged in that part of the road which may have contributed to Mister Gordon's unfortunate demise."

Reporter
"Is it safe to surmise that speeding may have been a factor given the extensive damage to Mister Shoman's fence?"

Supt. Linden Flowers
"I believe that speeding was a part of it and it coupled with the fact that it was raining and water was at that part. Speeding certainly appears to be a part of the equation."

Gordon's family declined comment.
