Another House Tumbles Down
posted (September 29, 2015)
Tonight - there's another report of another home that has fallen. An elderly woman is homeless after the wooden structure she called home crumbled to the ground around 4:30am. 62-year-old Laura Prince - who lived alone - was trapped under the fallen structure and had to be rescued. Today in an interview with 7news, she described what happened and how lucky she is to be alive.

Laura Prince, House fell
"This morning I got up about 4am, come out of my room, went into the hallway and by time I got there, the house just come right down with me. I dropped on the floor and I was trapped for a little while. The police and the ambulance came and took me out of the place. This house is up for 42 years. I try getting help, but no one tries to help me. No politician. I am not putting politics in it, but no politician came to help. This is way back in the PUP days, come in UDP days. Mr. Finnegan have my papers from when he first got elected. I went to him for a house he had me fill out a form and he says that he will take the papers to Belmopan for me and since then I haven't heard from him again - 8 year now. Any minister who pass here could have seen it. I went up and down to them and no one pays me any mind. This morning I told them that I am going to Hands in Hands to see if they could help me. But nobody gave me any attention, not Mr. Longsworth, not Mr. Willoughby - nobody. I always use to say that I hope this house doesn't fall, because it's a scary feeling. What saved me from the ceiling is because I drop between two big chairs, so the ceiling fell on that. That didn't fell on me. Only my feet was hooked on one of the boards. When they took me out, I told the men thanks. God was with me. Because how this house came down I didn't expect to come from out of it. I was in the heart of it. Thank God."

"Only one person came to see me from morning Mr. Paul from Albert Division. He says that if he could help me with anything he will help me find somewhere to stay and he will help me pay the bill. I found somewhere to stay and so they are taking out the things. I don't know what all is saved. It's sad, because no one attend to me. I am 62 years old on September 22nd that went."
