Oceana named its 2015 Ocean Heroes on Saturday, September 26th, in Caye Caulker. They are Biologist Miguel Alamilla and the recently deceased Captain Romi Badillo.
Tonight, with video courtesy OCEANA we look at Alamilla who has been managing the Hol Chan Marine Reserve since 1997.
Alamilla has also been leading a monitoring program to protect the highly vulnerable marine turtles that live and nest on the shores of Ambergris Caye.
Badillo, who was honoured posthumously was recognized for his contribution to the Fisheries Department; the tourism industry; support for scientific research; and in channel marking and navigation.
