Alleged Murderer Gets Off On Self Defence
posted (October 15, 2015)
Juan Rubio was accused of killing his 26 year old relation, Karim Peters three years ago, in November of 2012 in Pomona village. But today, after three years on remand, Rubio got free when Justice Denis Hanomansingh ruled that Rubio acted in self defence when he inflicted the fatal stab wound to Karim Peters.

In the trial without jury, Rubio was represented by attorney, Dickie Bradley who allowed his client to take the stand in his defence. Rubio told the court that on that fatal day, he was hanging out with his brother when Peters came riding on a bicycle appearing under the influence of alcohol and just barged into their conversation. That's when Rubio's brother told Peters to leave and he did but later returned with a machete still in his bicycle and that's when he barged once again into their conversation and pulled out his machete and attacked Juan Rubio who stabbed him once causing his death.

DPP Crown counsel, Sabita Maharaj called eight witnesses.
