Investigators in Placencia and Hopkins are trying to find out how 2 loaded handguns went missing from the Hopkins Police Station, when they should have been under lock and key.
The official version at this time is that two 9mm pistols - one containing 8 live rounds and the other containing 10 live rounds - were stolen during a burglary of the police station. One of the guns belongs to the police, and the other belongs to a Hopkins resident who believed that the gun would be better secured in police custody.
Also stolen in this burglary were 2 police handheld radios. We've learned that police are investigating this embarrassing case of theft as a possible inside job.
