And while southside police have stepped up patrols in gang areas with the help of the GSU - half the work is not on the ground but in the conference room. That's where mediation sessions occur - and that's what police had to do in the case of the murder of Karl Heusner. First an update on the search for the killer:..

"In regards to the murder of Heusner, we are doing follow up work at this time. We are reviewing video footage from the area, we are interviewing persons and that investigation continues."

"We have also had interventions with George Street, Jump Street, Southside gangsters and the Rocky Road, because the shooting of Mr. Heusner had some gang implication between those 4 groups. So again yesterday, myself Miss. Finnegan and Douglas Hyde, we had a very good mediation session with those 4 groups yesterday with a view to see how we could de-escalate the feud between those groups - with a view to prevent any further retaliation in that area."
Police have detained a number of gang affiliated persons after the Heusner murder.
