Lesbia: We Didn’t Do It
posted (October 21, 2015)

And if you follow the logic of alleged binder fraud – it goes right back to the assault of an elections and boundaries officer in Benque Viejo a few weeks ago.

2 weeks ago, we told you about the startling revelation from the Chief Elections Officer that one of her officers were allegedly assaulted late on Thursday, October 8, at Benque Viejo Office. Now, this officer swears that one of the supporters of the PUP in Benque hit her in the face as she exited her office late that night.

Now, there's all kinds of hysteria associated with the election season. And, right now, the PUP are suspicious that because these officers continue working late, some may be involved in election fraud by tampering with the election binders.

That's supposedly what Lesbia Guerra and her supporters were trying to verify. When we asked her about the alleged assault, she staked her reputation on the assertion that it did not happen. Here's how she explained it:

Lesbia Guerra Cocom - PUP Candidate, Cayo West

"We thought that the election and boundaries office was open late that night up until 10. We decided to stay there and actually take evidence, have evidence to show to the general public that indeed the office was open until 10 at night. We had contacted the police to see if they knew anything about the incident and yes they told us they had asked permission to have the office open until 10 all the entire week, even on weekends."

"I don't know when and where she actually went to give a statement saying that one of the persons that were present there actually attacked her physically. I mean she had a police officer at her side when she was inside the office. When she came out of the office she was escorted by 4 police officers that were present. So if there was any physical attack done, why didn't the police do something then? I don't know about it, we have evidence. We have pictures and we have a video where there is no evidence that anybody physically attacked her."

Daniel Ortiz

"Are you prepared to state your reputation on that that no none assaulted this officer?"

Lesbia Guerra Cocom - PUP Candidate, Cayo West

"Yes, 110 percent I testify and I'm here before the Belizean public stating that no one attacked this lady physically."

"Let people decide and let people question what they were doing there late at night."

Daniel Ortiz

"Ma'am do you concede that because this is an another election, these people don't get enough of the work done in time so they have to work overtime, that's the explanation they have given to us. It seems perfectly logical that they are there after hours to get this election ready and that certain details which they didn't get to do in the day were done during that night. Is that not a logical explanation?"

Lesbia Guerra Cocom - PUP Candidate, Cayo West

"Well it's not logical because we have been having people rumouring that they have seen people coming from across the border."

Daniel Ortiz

"Ma'am but you have no evidence of this. How would you answer if someone was to challenge you that this is all just over hyping, all just suspicion and rumors; you have no proof and therefore to treat the election officer as though she's doing something wrong is not in the best interest of this country."

Lesbia Guerra Cocom - PUP Candidate, Cayo West

"Let me clarify. I am not saying that she is doing anything wrong. I did not say that what she's doing; I am asking her to give an explanation."

As we told you, this elections officer has made a formal police complaint.
