San Pedro Daylight Shooting
posted (October 28, 2015)

Also on San Pedro, a taxi man was shot yesterday in broad daylight on a busy street. It happened at 3:25 in the afternoon near Maya Island Air. 31 year old Juan Menjivar was sitting in front of the luggage area when a man rode up on his bicycle, jumped off behind the luggage area, walked up to Menjivar and fired about 6 shots at him. Menjivar was shot to the arm, wrist and abdomen but survived. The gunman then dashed across to a jetty, and escaped in a boat. According to the san Pedro Sun, Menjivar has previously been charged with drug trafficking, discharging a Firearm in Public, Uncustomed Goods and for the possession of over $10,000 believed to be the proceeds of Drug Trafficking.

So, all indications are that this shooting was supposed to be an execution, but it failed. But, even with all that, police couldn't give much details on this case either.

Sgt. Lenancio Bol - Station Sergeant, San Pedro

"On yesterday's date, which was Tuesday October 27th, 2015; sometime after 3:25 PM, police responded to a shooting incident at the Maya Air terminal in San Pedro Town where they observe a male person of the name Juan Menjivar suffering from what appears to be a gunshot wound. Close observation determine that he had injuries to his left forearm, his right wrist and abdominal area. Initial police investigation reviled that some time about 3:15 PM, Juan Menjivar was standing at the luggage section at Maya Island Air where he was approached by a hispanic male person who rode up on a bicycle and stood about 15 feet away from Juan Menjivar and fired between 5 to 6 shots in his direction."

"Was anybody else hurt? Was it crowded?"

Sgt. Lenancio Bol - Station Sergeant, San Pedro

"It was a busy day, it was as routine, people up and down but no one else got any injury during this time."

Courtney Weatherburne

"So now, again I'm sure, I guess you can't get into this but I still have to ask in terms of the motive. What are police making of this incident?"

Sgt. Lenancio Bol - Station Sergeant, San Pedro

"At this specific time, we will finger point any particular motive. We're looking at the shooting at several angles. The investigation is still on going and based on that we will not suggest any particular reason."

Courtney Weatherburne

"And you can't disclose those angles that you are considering?"

Sgt. Lenancio Bol - Station Sergeant, San Pedro

"Not at this time."

Menjivar was taken to the KHMH for treatment and was released today.
