Julius Espat Defends Cayo South Seat Against Ralph Huang
posted (October 30, 2015)
And, from Pickstock we take you to Cayo South where Incumbent Julius Espat is defending his seat against UDP newcomer Ralph Huang.

He's made the news already because documents purporting that he has Guatemalan Nationality has emerged. Also, as viewers remember, his constituency office was burnt down in Camelot Village a week ago, in what's believed to be a politically motivated arson.

So despite those difficulties, how well matched are these two politicians? The prevailing perception is that Huang is the underdog, and when we asked him about that last week, he didn't agree. Here's what both candidates had to say about their attempts at ascending to elected office:

Julius Espat, PUP Area Representative, Cayo South
"The last general election we won by a thousand votes and we won every single buck and we will do the same this time and we hope to increase the margin."

Jules Vasquez
"Election is coming. We interviewed you on nomination day. How do you feel?"

Ralph Huang, UDP Standard Bearer, Cayo South
"I feel good."

Jules Vasquez
"Everybody feel Julius Espat will win Cayo South. That's taken for granted."

Ralph Huang, UDP Standard Bearer, Cayo South
"I think a person can say who they want to say, but I don't think that he will win Cayo South."

Julius Espat, PUP Area Representative, Cayo South
"I thought that when I got into politics the first time that being elected the first time would.... It seems that we've been doing our work, because I am warmly received. This is not a game, I know I will warmly be received in the PUP home, but I've been warmly receive in the UDP homes. We are struggling right now because we have people from the other camp that wants to join us and we have to be careful to create that balance."

Ralph Huang, UDP Standard Bearer, Cayo South
"He already proven himself who he is the last 3-4 years. I think the PUP have to wake up and try to do something for the country."

Julius Espat, PUP Area Representative, Cayo South
"I believe Ralph Huang is not running against Julius Espat. Ralph Huang is running against the people of Cayo South and he has a major problem in that he cannot communicate with them. He doesn't speak English well, he doesn't speak Spanish well and in politics if you cannot communicate with your people, you cannot send any message across. So he has a serious problem with that."
