The Cop Called Cruz Crashed and Died
posted (November 2, 2015)

If you watched the news last week, you saw Sergeant Orlando Cruz talking about the situation with the Hattieville Prison – where persons were trying to smuggle illegal products inside. He did that as the officer commanding in Hattieville. Cruz was a rising star in the police department – but that star got very suddenly snuffed out when he crashed and died on Sunday morning near the Haulover bridge. Today his commanding officer told us about it with a heavy heart:…

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster, Commander - Eastern Division Rural

"Our deepest condolences to the family of Sergeant Orlando Cruz, he met his demised early Sunday morning at about little after 2. Apparently he was travelling from Belize City to the Ladyville area on his police issued motorcycle where he collided into the guard rail after crossing the Haulover Bridge. And apparently flipped to the side of the road and met his untimely death. Sergeant Orlando Cruz is a very hard working intelligent officer who I believe would have been going far if not reaching the number 1 spot in the Belize Police Department. We've seen trial marks where it indicated that he came too close to the guard rail and what we've seen on the scene is confirmed to an unfortunate accident."

Cruz was the father of one child.

Broaster says his formation will set up a trust fund for his child.
