Another Cayo Killing, This Time A Friend Pulled The Trigger
posted (November 3, 2015)
Last night we told you about the murder of a 20-year-old man in front of Blue Angels Night Club in the heart of San Ignacio. Well, there was another murder this morning after 8:00 in that western town. 26 year old Darwin Guerrero was doing construction work on Bella Vista Street when a man - Jimmy Rivas drove up on an ATV and shot Guerrero.

Reports are that when Guerrero saw Rivas with the gun he turned to run away but Rivas caught him in the back. This morning police told us that they got information that Rivas was in the Bullet Tree area so they went searching but found nothing. We also spoke to Guerrero's supervisor who was near him when he was shot. Here is what the supervisor Mario Pineda and Guerrero's family had to say:

Insp. Reymundo Reyes, Deputy OC, San Ignacio Police
"This incident happen this morning. Sometime around 8:40am San Ignacio received a call pf a shooting incident on Bella Vista Street, San Ignacio Town. Police immediately visited the scene where on arrival, all we were able to see were 5 expended shells and a pool of blood. Information was that a young man by the name of Darwin Guerrero, a resident of San Ignacio Town was working construction work on Bella Vista Street when an individual who have been identified as Jimmy Rivas arrived on an ATV and approached Darwin in the area where he was working and fired 5 shots at his direction hitting him. At this moment we have covered the area of bullet tree, Calla Creek and Paslow Falls, because apparently that is the direction that the young man took with the ATV. So we believe that he is still somewhere in that vicinity and we will keep making checks in feeder roads hoping that we could locate the ATV and likewise Mr. Rivas for questioning."

Voice of: Mario Pineda, Supervisor - PZ Construction
"Almost like 100 meters from him and then when I saw him, he was drinking a Monster drink and then I was eating peanuts. When I was going to talk to him, about 30 feet before reaching him, I saw somebody come down from the ATV and went directly to him and then he took the gun and shoot him."

Jeidy Jones, Sister
"The person that killed him were friends. They went fishing together and stuff. That's what I know, that that's the person, because all the workers saw him when he reached. His face was not covered. They really saw him, that he was the person who killed him (my brother). We can't imagine why his friend would want to kill his own friend. They were really close friends. They are neighbors, they lives in the same area."

Courtney Weatherburne
"How long have they known each other? How long have they been friends?"

Jeidy Jones, Sister
"From they were small. They grew up together. I really can't understand or I really can't believe why he would want to kill his own friend."

Courtney Weatherburne
"Did your brother ever tell you about any issues or problems that they might have had?"

Jeidy Jones, Sister
"No. For me, I think that his conscience is really bothering him right now, because he was his friend and I don't know what got into him that he did this. But I know that God is the only one that judges. So for me, God will do justice. I don't hate the person. I know the Lord and I ask the Lord to forgive him for what he has done. Because it's something hard for us. I have 3 brothers and one sister and myself. We are 5 children and it's really hard for us because we are a close family. Next week we were going to get together t0o celebrate my mom's birthday. We are going to miss him a lot."

Guerrero had been working with Pineda on Bella Vista Street for about a year. Guerrero was the father of 2 young children. As you heard in the story the accused Jimmy Rivas was Guerrero's close friend and the family doesn't know why he would want to kill his friend. Police continue to look for Rivas.
