PM Barrow Rewards Seniority, But What About Renewal?

And so, of the 11 full ministers who won re-election - 10 of them remain basically untouched - intact with their full ministries which we will go over shortly. But, the fact that they got to keep their ministries - most of them for a third term - demonstrates that Prime Minister Dean Barrow awards cabinet portfolios based on electoral seniority. We asked him if this augurs well for renewal in his party:...

"How would you answer the criticism that perhaps you do that at the detriment of the renewal of your party? That perhaps the newly elected persons should have been given seniority over persons who may be shortly retiring. We think of Minister Martinez, we think of Minister Finnegan - there are rumors that they may be on their way out."

"Well I've confirm with both of them that that is indeed the position and it's been made clear that in that context, it is expected that the two will withdraw from their ministries well in advance of the next general election date and at that time there is obviously going to be a reconfiguration."
