posted (November 17, 2015)
Balance sheets and rows of numbers: Those are two things that may come immediately to mind when you think of accounting. But really its way more complicated than that. There are international standards and systems that accountants must meet and operate by. Today at the Biltmore there was a seminar built around those standards and the importance of implementing them. The coordinator told us it's all about providing better service to clients:..

Reynaldo Magana, President, Institute of Chartered Accountants of Belize
"This training is a two-day event covering international financial reporting standards. As you know the institute in Belize is in charge of accounting profession of Belize and this is one way how we try to empower our professionals including many people from the private sector as well as the public sector. It's what you call international financial reporting standards. It's the global framework for accountants as far as accounting standards. We call it 'the bible" if you like. So we have to do refresher courses. We have to get updated. These things are all over time, they don't stay stagnant. So every year or so there are certain standards that get updated. So we have to ensure that our members get updated with those standards, so that in delivering the services to the public. We are well equip."

Belize will host a global conference next year which will give accountants the opportunity to be exposed to new areas in the field.
