Vacationing US Coast Guard Officer Stabbed
posted (December 11, 2015)
An off duty female US Coast Guard officer was stabbed on San Pedro last night. 25 year old Jennifer Smith was on vacation in Belize and spend her time on the island. Last night she was walking near Ramon's Village Resort when a Hispanic man approached her and asked for $20. When she refused the man stabbed her in the back of her neck. Smith was rushed to the KHMH where she got an MRI. She has been flown back to the US. Today, at another event we asked US Ambassador Carlos Moreno about what they are doing to assist Smith.

Carlos Moreno, US Ambassador
"I just learnt about that this morning when you probably learnt about it. My understanding is that the off-duty tourist who is a female signed to the United States Coast Guard on vacation I presumed was stabbed sometime early this morning or last night in San Pedro. I just been aware of it. My consular section is attending to the matter as well as our MLO office to check on her condition."

Police have several persons detained in connection with this incident.
