Real Time Communication For Rural Police
posted (December 11, 2015)
At the top of the news, we told you how Eastern Division Rural police cracked the case of the home invasion and rape at the Abou-Nehra Estate just outside of Burrell Boom. That was owing to a relentless investigation, but also because of updated information relayed in real time back to the leaders of the operations. They were using what are known as whatsapp groups, a feature of the popular mobile app that allows chatting between up to 100 of persons at one time. Each of the field teams were updating their bosses on every single detail of their movements to allow for coordination and analysis of the operational variables.

The bosses of Eastern Division Rural see its communication potential. So now, they now want to harness its usage and popularity allow the communities in their jurisdiction to have an open link with police.

Senior Superintendent Broaster told us why residents should strongly consider utilizing it:

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster - OC, Eastern Division Rural
"Over the Christmas and we want to encourage the community to keep up the "See something, say something" and you may just well stop yourself from becoming victim of crime or violence. We have extra patrols out, we have officers doing extra duties to provide security and safety for our residents and their premises during this time of festivity and like I said earlier, we're putting note under your doors to let you know that we've been at your premises checking out in your area. If you are not at home, if you are home we are talking to you and we are explain to you some tips and if you have not gotten any note under your door and you are not at home during working hours, just please like I said be free to call us and let us know and we will ensure that officers patrol your area and do the same thing. We want to create the WhatsApp group for the rural eastern division and the two WhatsApp number that you can tap into are 601-3000 and 620-2080. You can also create your own neighborhood group WhatsApp and link us in so that when you send a message your neighbors can get it as well as the police of rural eastern division simultaneously and we will definitely take action into any request or concern that you may have."

Also, on Monday, we told you about how the caretaker's wife was forced at gunpoint to call off the police during the home invasion at the Abou-Nehra estate. In response, Eastern Division Rural is rolling out what they call the Personal Protection Program, which we introduced you to at the beginning of the week. Today, the Head of Eastern Division Rural revealed a bit more details about how it will work:

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster - OC, Eastern Division Rural
"The personal protection program that we will be implementing is a technical program that will enable the community to send us a SOS and we will be able to call them and if we do not get a response from them, then we will put action into motion to go and ensure that they are safe and secure and as well if they do answer we will arrange certain things between them that we will know if they are under duress or not."

A slight clarification, Police told made an error in one of the numbers that you can contact them via whatsapp. That second number should be 626-2020.
