Former Cop, Now Parolee Sent Back To Jail
posted (December 16, 2015)

30 year old Ronald Sutherland is a former police officer who was sent to jail for beating up his girlfriend. He was released on parole but is back in jail tonight, accused this time of smuggling weed. Surveillance by Special Branch led to a search of his home yesterday at 5 Adam's Lane which turned up four ounces of marijuana.

Sutherland told the court that his brother left behind a bag and he didn't know what was in it. Still, Sutherland took took a guilty plea for drug trafficking and begged the court for leniency.

But, he is a parolee, so, after considering the fact that Sutherland will no doubt be taken back before a parole board for violating the conditions of his parole, Senior Magistrate, Sharon Fraser did not accept the guilty plea and instead denied him bail.

Senior Magistrate Fraser explained to Sutherland that after his visit to the parole board, if they do not revoke his parole, then he can come back before the court and apply for bail, but for now, he would be remanded to the Belize Central Prison until February 2016.
