Is There Christmas Cheer This Year?
posted (December 23, 2015)

Is there any Christmas Cheer this year? That's what some have been wondering since the Petrocaribe fund has just about wound down – and the millions that are left in there has already been committed to other projects – plus, there's no election on the horizon – so no need to curry favour with the electorate. It's a cynical but ineluctable conclusion – but according to Michael Finnegan – it's also a false one – since he says cheer is ongoing in Mesop:…

Hon. Michael Finnegan - Mesopotamia Area Representative

"So fi tell you that no Christmas cheers, I don't know where Christmas cheers no deh but I the tell you Christmas cheers they inna Mesopotamia and I know Christmas cheers is in Albert division because Albert borders Mesopotamia and the people in both Albert and Mesopotamia are all jumping for joy."

Jules Vasquez

"I wouldn't quite go that far. I hear the people in Albert the get a lee 75 dollars."

Hon. Michael Finnegan - Mesopotamia Area Representative

"But what wrong with 75 dollars' worth of Christmas cheers? Nothing wrong with 75 dollars' worth of Christmas cheers. That is wonderful Jules that is wonderful Christmas cheers; it's a token, a gift of appreciation. A gift of appreciation to share, share the good season, share the season, share the love with others; that is what Christmas is all about. Christmas cheers da no fi mine yo."

Jules Vasquez

"I see in the today's Guardian that Jamal Shyne Barrow is in the Mesopotamia area giving out gifts."

Hon. Michael Finnegan - Mesopotamia Area Representative

"That is good, I welcome that. He's spreading the love for his uncle. I'd want to believe he's spreading the love for his uncle, Uncle Michael (laugh)."

Jules Vasquez

"Is he a part of the Christmas cheer? Is he doing that out of Christmas cheers funds?"

Hon. Michael Finnegan - Mesopotamia Area Representative

"No, he do that on his own. Every year Jamal come in my division and help people toys, help the children with toys, he no just the do that. For the last 3 years I think Shyne the do that inna the division. When he was in states he does send his lee money and so and I buy toys for the children."

Jules Vasquez

"Sound like you guys had this thing planned long time mien."

Hon. Michael Finnegan - Mesopotamia Area Representative

"Whe that?"

Jules Vasquez

"The succession in Mesop."

Hon. Michael Finnegan - Mesopotamia Area Representative

"The succession in Mesop will have nothing to do with me. It will have to do with the voters of the Mesopotamia division. Let me get it clear and let me state it clear to the nation. Mesopotamia division for the UDP does not belong to me, it belongs to the United Democratic Party. I am just the representative at this stage of the United Democratic Party in that particular division. The good people of the Mesopotamia division will decide who will succeed me, if there will be need for succession, if there will be need for it. Remember Dean Lindo always teach you thing and I had to tell prime minister about it the other day. And this is a quote for Dean Lindo, man whe give his word and can't take it back da no a man (laugh)."

Finnegan says he has been giving his constituents turkeys for Christmas with his cheer funds.
