The Marley Tradition For Christmas
posted (December 24, 2015)
Apart from your Christmas trees, your turkeys and your Christmas hams, there is one other Christmas essential that can't be overlooked - and that's Marley! Not Bob, or Damian…nope, it's the kind of Marley you put on your floor. It's a central part of the traditional Christmas housecleaning, but what is it about marley really? These inexpensive, decorative floor coverings come in many splendored colours, but what makes a marley good enough to take into your house? Emanuel Pech took to the streets to find the answer to that question.

Bright, colorful, and decorative patterns- these are the marks of a good marley. When we stopped at Vin Fa's Shopping center yesterday, the sale of marley was still at its peak. Costumers rushed in to make that last minute purchase of Marley for that final Christmas touch. Marlon Grey has worked a long time with the sale of marley. He described this year's marley rush as more hectic that last year's.

Marlon Grey - Shop keeper
"This year I think it's a little even more hectic than last year. It's a trend - it normal procedure. Every year around Christmas time people crowd up in here buying marley. That's the number one item they keep buying; marley, paints - a number of items."

"What do you prices look like?"

Marlon Grey - Shop keeper
"I think we have the best prices around town. The marley 72 inch, the regular grade is $5.50 per yard and we have a new quality here. It a foam material with backing and it's thicker than the regular marley and its $.7.95 per yard. Very good quality. People buy it a lot."

"What do you see people going for? Are they going for the more affordable ones or are they going for the more expensive, durable ones?"

Marlon Grey - Shop keeper
"Most people buy the affordable ones. Some people come around asking for the better quality - the thicker grade, wider, but the grade we sell most is the local one the regular 72 inch and the price is very good. Next door is $6.00 per yard. Other place is well over $6.00. So I think we have the best prices here, so people keep coming here. We have crowd all day long. We don't even have time to eat. The customers keep coming. We just put our food down and take care of them and try to make them happy."

In the other corner of town, Liberty store was also making some great marley sales.

Teresita Martinez - Liberty Store
"Well Liberty is specialize in marley. We have 3 types of marley. The thickness of the marley we have one that is 0.5, 0.65 and 0.8."

Reporter
"Explain to me what are they going for? The less inexpensive one or the expensive more durable ones?"

Teresita Martinez - Liberty Store
"More durable ones. I don't say they don't go for the smaller gauge of marley, but they more go for the marley that they already know - that is not the marley that is easy to break. Every year we are specialize in marley when it comes to Liberty and Delta Store. that's our go for the Christmas."
