Rape Victim Speaks Up, Tells Story Of Outrageous Police Abuse
posted (December 28, 2015)
Tonight, a rape victim is speaking out. 25-year-old mother of two, Vanessa Evans is accusing a police officer of handcuffing and raping her in the San Ignacio police station - while she was detained. Evans says she was removed from her cell early on the morning of December 20th and taken into a dark room where a police officer raped her. Now, we don't usually broadcast the names of rape victims, but Vanessa and her husband contacted us, and said they want to go public because they believe the police are deliberately dragging their feet. That's because, one week after the report was made, they still haven't charged one of their own. And so today at her home in Bullet Tree, Vanessa told me about the rape, and the traumatic aftermath:...

Vanessa Evans, "A police officer raped me"
"He opened the cell and tell me to come. And I told him I said come? Come for what? And he goes like, come lets go back that way and he hand me a roll of toilet paper and I begin to walk because he had a gun and he had the gun showing it to me. I came out and I started walking towards the back like he said, that's what he said."

"Okay, so he had the gun in his hand or he was just showing you his gun by his side?"

Vanessa Evans, "A police officer raped me"
"He was just showing me his gun by his side."

Courtney Weatherburne
"When he took you to the back, did he say anything before or....?"

Vanessa Evans, "A police officer raped me"
"He said you are going to get what you deserved, why you keep beating your men? So I said, it not your business, whatever me and my man have, we've been having it for 8 years and that doesn't give you the right to take me out of my cell to try and assault me. He keeps coming back and forth, tells me that his private loves me. And I tell him that as soon as they open this door tomorrow I am going to report you. He was like "I did this before and I got away with it." "What makes you feel like they are going to catch up with me?" Then I started to cry. I said God, he did it before."

Courtney Weatherburne
"You got a good look at him. As you said before right the police officers are coming for you to do the ID parade right?"

Vanessa Evans, "A police officer raped me"
"Yup, I got a good look at him and I got his badge number. I can see him with my eyes clothes in the dark, in the light. They are dragging their feet in a cover up, because I report the incident Sunday morning at 6am and they didn't come back to see me until Monday at 1pm. I haven't sleep, because I scare I close my eyes and see him. Then I am scared because he said he got away with it. Then I am scared that he shushed the other persons. I am scared for my life and everything else. I have two young kids."

Today, police contacted Vanessa Evans to do an ID parade which she says is the second one she has done.

This evening, Police announced that Constable Luke Moreira has been charged with rape. This is after Evans did an ID parade today. She made the allegation a week ago.

Evans has had a very troubled past. She told us this is the 3rd time she has been raped - the first time was at age 11, the 2nd time at age 14. As you heard in the interview, claims the officer told her that this is not the first time he has done this.
