Senior Citizen Still Unconscious After Home Invasion (By Neighbor!)
posted (December 28, 2015)
93-Year-old resident of Fern Lane, Patrick Grant is a man known to cut his own yard, and even mend his neighbor's fence if he has a hammer and a nail. The senior citizen lives by himself and likes it that way - but tonight he's clinging to life after a home invasion left him badly beaten. Grant was at home sleeping on Sunday morning before 6:00, when a man police believe to be his neighbor stormed in to steal a TV, and in the process, he almost robbed the old man of his life. I found out more today when I visited the area:..

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
93 year old Patrick Grant usually spends the entire day sitting on this white plastic chair. This is where he relaxes and enjoys his time alone.

And yesterday was no different - after his long rest in his favorite spot, he went inside his house. But everything changed when he got an unexpected visit from his neighbor. Grant was asleep when his neighbor stormed in, viciously assaulted him and stole his TV.

When Grant's family finally arrived at the house - he was slumped on this same chair - almost beaten to death.

Carlos Diaz, Son-in-law
"He was bleeding and couldn't respond to us. The police came quickly and the ambulance came shortly after and we got him to the hospital. But as far as I know he still haven't regain consciousness up to now. What can we do? If not like he broke a leg you could wrap it. All that can do is probably give him is drips or pain killers and have him take his time. Once he regained consciousness he could tell you what happened and how the whole thing went."

Although Diaz says his father-in-law wasn't targeted, he believes the robber did want him dead:

Carlos Diaz, Son-in-law
"It's just a robbery. He doesn't bother anybody. He lives all by himself. Like I said, he cuts his yard, he does everything for himself. He just got some nail from me last Friday to go and fix the neighbor's fence. It's the fence between them, but it belongs to the neighbor. He fixes it. He doesn't care. He doesn't have anything to do and he is strong and healthy. At 93 he is strong and healthy. I think they were trying to kill him. If you look at that, it's something like half a cement block they whap him in his head side with - they were trying to kill him. He's just determined not to die. That's the way I see it. I mean, if the neighbor can do that - i mean a 25 years old man, whatever his age is, can take a 93 year old and push him in a corner and tell him to sit down and let me thief your TV - you don't have to beat him up, you don't have to kill him to do that."

Police say the main suspect is his neighbor - who lives right across the street - which is also where they found his 21 inch TV. That man is detained tonight - but has not been charged.
