Teenager Knifed To Death After Boom Horse Races
posted (December 28, 2015)
There were two murders on Boxing Day, one in the Belize River Valley, and other in the Toledo District. We start with the killing of Belize City resident, 18 year-old Lennox Flowers.

He left his family's home on Partridge Street to go with one of his bosses for a horse race and an after-party at the race-track in Burrell Boom Village. That's where he reportedly got dragged into a street fight, and he was stabbed and killed.

Today, our team went to Burrell Boom, and we found out that police and his family have very different theories about why this young man was killed. Daniel Ortiz has that story:

Daniel Ortiz reporting
18 year-old Lennox Pierreze Flowers was attacked and stabbed here on the grounds of the Charleston Horse Racing Track on Boxing Day. He had come here to socialize with one of his employers. Later in the night, he ended up in a fight with several persons believed to be from the George Street Gang.

By the time the police officers arrived at the location, the attackers had already knifed him several times

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster - OC, Eastern Division Rural
"Our officers from Ladyville Police Precinct were alerted to a fight in progress. Upon arriving at the scene, they encounter one male person who had multiple stab wounds to his body. An ambulance was called for him. Nevertheless it appeared that all the ambulance was occupied at the time, so he was then rushed to the KHMH where he was pronounced dead on arrival."

His entire family is blindsided by the violence which claimed his life at a social gathering. Their holiday spirit is gone, and only grief lingers.

Jennifer Thomas - Mother of Deceased
"My son wasn't a bad boy. My son gave no kind of trouble. He have two jobs, he works with Mr. Russell Longsworth. My child never gets himself in problems."

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster - OC, Eastern Division Rural
"Apparently its gang rivalry between George Street and Ghost Town. We know that the individuals that stab Mr. Flowers are from George Street gang and we believe that Mr. Flowers is an associate of Ghost Town Crips."

But the family says that police are mistaken in that last bit of information. In fact, they believe that it was an ex-girlfriend who associates with street figures that instigated his killing.

Jennifer Thomas - Mother of Deceased
"My son is a part of no gang. He is not into gangs. When my son is not here, he is at Mr. Longsworth house in Belama or he works with Traffic Department or he works at the port with John Longsworth. He is not a trouble child - not gang related. It's a setup, because the young lady set up the guys to kill my son. The young lady that set it up, to be frank with you, she was an ex-girlfriend. But the lifestyle she lives is not for my family. I can't choose for my kids, but I wish that my kids could always have a good partner, because I work very hard for them. So I told him that's not the life - you got to get out and my kids they listen to me. I have no problem. All my kids listens to me."

Police have already detained 2 persons who they are convinced are Flowers' killers.

Sr. Supt. Edward Broaster - OC, Eastern Division Rural
"So far we have in custody two individuals and we are seeking another who will be charged for murder."

Jennifer Thomas - Mother of Deceased
"I hope and pray that they find all of them and we get justice. Because if we don't, I will take it in my hands. I will deal with it. So I have a message for the Commissioner of Police, I thank you guys for the job you did, but I have a message for you and Dean Barrow, you guys deal with these persons, because if you don't deal with them...."

Police have recovered a knife which they believe was used as a weapon against Flowers, but they believe that there is another knife which they haven't been able to find.
