Cops Catch Fleeing Gunman
posted (December 30, 2015)

And while he may have elevated policing to a somewhat cerebral pursuit, Williams isn't above playing cops and robbers, or as the case may be, cops and shooters. That's what happened on Monday night when Williams ran right into a hot police pursuit of a car that had just been involved in a shooting on Curassow Street.

At around 8:20, 19-year-old Stanley Alexander Flowers of a Belize City address was shot to the right arm while he stood at the corner of Gibnut and Curassow Streets. Williams told us how cops got the car, the driver, and the vehicle:..

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams - OC, Eastern Division Southside

"On Monday night sometime after 9 pm, police responded to an information of shots being fired on Currosow street. Police were in the immediate vicinity and the end up pursuing a vehicle, a Mitsubishi Endeavour. The vehicle was pursued through the streets of Southside Belize City; I must say I was a part of that pursue as well, I was in my assigned government vehicle and I heard the shots fired and the strike team were in immediate pursuit and I went in aid of them. We manage to caught up with the vehicle on Elston Kerr street and we arrested one Christian Herrera, a resident of San Ignacio town who was the driver of the vehicle. During the pursuit, something was seen thrown out of the vehicle, he was immediately taken back to the location where the object was seen thrown and the object turned out to be a 9 millimetre pistol; which was one of the weapon of choice choose in committing the shooting at that particular time. We have since arrested and charged Christian Herrera for kept unlicensed firearm in respect to that matter."

"Is he someone known to, although you say he is from San Ignacio, is he someone known to be in and around Belize City is it your belief that he came down from San Ignacio to execute a hit?"

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams - OC, Eastern Division Southside

"We believe he was brought down to Belize City from San Ignacio by the other elements because there were 3 persons but the other 2 manage to get away. We believe he was brought down by them to assist them with vehicular resources to go and commit the crime and after the shooting have occured he would have just go back to San Ignacio and no one would figure who did it."

Police recovered a 9mm Daewoo brand pistol and are seeking two other men – who were the passengers.
