The race for PUP Leadership is heating up - and the campaign's getting dirty on Facebook. Today, opponents of John Briceno - and we're not sure which ones - circulated a letter that's almost 20 years old! Dated August of 1996, Briceno writes to George Price, then leader of the PUP. In it, the letter writer urges Price to step aside and let Deputy Leader Said Musa step up. The writer says, quote, "with all respect to you, I feel that now is the time to hand over the reins to our Deputy Leader said Musa." End quote. Now, in the PUP - anything to offend the venerated Mr Price is seen as a cardinal offence - and we imagine those who posted the old letter on Facebook are tying to make the case that Brceno is not loyal.
We asked Briceno about it today and he said that the letter was a fake in 1996, and it is still so now. He says he had nothing to do with it. He says whoever sent it out this time is grabbing unto straws.
