Teenager Chopped/Robbed Of Vehicle By A Passenger
posted (January 21, 2016)
A teenager was almost chopped to death in Cotton Tree. Yesterday 18-year-old Jonathan Zetina was driving to Belmopan with three acquaintances when those same men held him up at gunpoint. They forced him to pull over near Cotton Tree Village, dragged him out of his car into some bushes and chopped him multiple times with a machete. Zetina received injuries to the head, neck and back and his middle and ring finger were severed. He somehow got away and his attackers drove off with his car. Zetina ran out to the highway and that's when he got help from a mechanic in the village. The mechanic then took him to the Roaring Creek police station. Police say that Zetina's mother was already at the station making a missing person's report when the mechanic brought him into the station. The teenager is now hospitalized at Medical Associates.

Now, it's a grisly attack especially from a group of so-called friends. When we spoke to police today they told us they are still trying to figure out if Zetina picked them up from somewhere, or if they were out together, and exactly what went wrong on the road. In terms of the investigation, just this evening police told us they found Zetina's car all burnt up on a feeder road near the entrance of Belmopan. Police have 3 persons detained.

Also, an email was forwarded to us by Senator Lisa Shoman on behalf of Zetina. In the email, she describes the attack and says, quote, "Threats against the life of Mr. Zetina and his family were made by his attackers."

We will keep following this story.
