H.E. Carlos Quesnel Melendez - Mexican Ambassador to Belize
"I want to express my recognition of Mr. Elrington's visit to Mexico last July. I think that represents a very important step towards the strengthening of the relationship between both countries and this step will also, I'm sure bring benefits for both countries and for both populations. What is next and what I have received instructions while I was in Mexico, I got really clear instructions that well now we have these legal frameworks that has already been updated. We are very proud of that. But now both countries, authorities from Belize and Mexico must work very hard to implement and to get actions, practical results and not only just sign for sign and we hope we get some practical results very soon."

Some of the agreements signed during Minister Elrington's visit include: an MOU for Technical Cooperation between the Social Security Board of Belize and the Institute of Social Security United Mexican States; and a General Cooperation Agreement between the University of Belize and the National Autonomous University of Mexico to support and promote the execution of joint research activities. Other agreements include a cooperation between the Belize Zoo and the Tropical Education Center and the General Direction of Zoological Parks and Wildlife of the Secretariat of Environment of Mexico City; a joint statement on the conclusion of negotiations regarding an Air Transport Agreement between both Governments; and an operation basis governing the innocent passage of units of the Mexican Navy through the Territorial Sea of Belize and Units of the Belize Coast Guard Service through the Territorial Sea of Mexico.
