Belizean Student Shot In Guyana
posted (January 22, 2016)
31 year old Glenfield Dennison, a Belizean law student of the University of Guyana, was shot several times late last night on the East Coast of Demerara.

Reports from Guyana say that Dennison had just dropped off his girlfriend, also a student of the university, and was about to ride off when a gunman approached, firing three shots at him. Two of the shots caught him, one on his stomach and one on his left arm. Dennison was picked up and rushed to the Georgetown Hospital. The shot to the stomach reportedly punctured lungs, and grazed his liver, so he has been placed in an induced coma and is on a ventilator.

Tonight, his family in Belize is desperate for answers. Meanwhile police in Guyana are investigating the second shooting of a Belizean in the past couple of years. Authorities say they have ruled out robbery as a motive for the attack since Dennison was found with all his possessions.

We note that Glenfield Dennison, is a prominent student at the university- always engaged in student politics and championing several social causes within the student community. In 2015 he was highlighted by one of the local Guyanese news stations who interviewed him as students protested outside of the campus amidst an industrial action involving the University administration. In this video Dennison is seen delivering a speech to members of the University of Guyana Student's Society, which he is a member of.

So tonight, Glenfield Dennison is critical, and remains in an induced coma on a ventilator. We'll keep tracking his condition.

As we mentioned, he is the second Belizean to be shot in two year sin Guyana, the other was Emil Mendez, an orthopedic technician who was shot during a robbery in In December 2014.
