A Dr. Stabbed, His House Guest Killed In Home Invasion/Burglary
posted (January 27, 2016)

2 friends were stabbed during a home invasion in the city. It happened around 1:45 this morning on Simon Lamb Street. 44 year old Dr. Marcos Rugama was at his home with his friend 32 year old Ian Blair. Rugama went outside to pick in clothes and when he returned, he saw 2 men attacking Blair - one of them had a knife. Rugama intervened and there was a struggle where Rugama was stabbed once to the chest and Blair was stabbed 3 times – twice to the shoulder and once to the rib cage. Blair didn't make it. Today we spoke to Ian Blair's mother and older brother and they told us they were in complete shock when they heard the news.

Maria Heredia - Mother of Ian Blair

"Last night da the last time and after when I see Ian and he tell me; ma I going. He gives me a cup of ice cream and he hugs my mom and he hugs me up and he gone, say bye."

Courtney Weatherburne

"Around what time was this ma'am?"

Maria Heredia - Mother of Ian Blair

"That happen 8 o'clock he left we last night, from that I no see Ian. When they come tell me about 2 o'clock they call me, they stab Ian, he is in bad condition."

Amir Heredia - Older Brother, Ian Blair

"I was very shock about it because me and my brother was very close. So I decided I couldn't drive my vehicle at the time, so they decided to bring me at the hospital to try to identify the body. The way I saw my brother so far, I didn't expect that he was going to die that way and all I want is justice to be done."

"He was a very calm person, he is someone that never interferes with anyone, he was always a calm person and he is always caring and always there beside us whenever we want to speak to him. So it's really hard for me to actually see what he went through."

Courtney Weatherburne

"So it was just pretty much a situation that your brother was there at the doctor's house at the wrong time."

Amir Heredia - Older Brother, Ian Blair

"Exactly, he was just there at the wrong time and as far as I know, he and the doctor was very good friends; I didn't expect he was going to go that way."

Courtney Weatherburne

"So you don't think that your brother or the doctor were the targets? You don't know if any issues they had at all with anybody?"

Amir Heredia - Older Brother, Ian Blair

"No, as far as we know the doctor through KHMH. We know that he is someone that won't get himself involved in any sort of problems like that."

While the family is still grappling with this incident, the police have several leads in this case. We spoke to Assistant Commissioner Desiree Phillips and she explained what police have been able to piece together so far.

Desiree Phillips - Assistant Commissioner of Police

"Around 1:45 AM this morning police were called to #6 Simone Lamb Street. Upon arrival, they were met by Mr. Marcos Rugama Miranda; he's a medical doctor, he was observed with one single stab wound to the chest. He reported to police that around 1:40 this morning, he was inside his dwelling premises in the company of a friend, Ian Blair. And he went outside the back door to pick in some clothes that he has left on the clothes line. In the process of returning inside, he was met by 2 dark complexion male persons; one was armed with what he believed to be a firearm and one with a knife. He saw them approaching his friend Ian and in terms of that, he reached for different items that he could have put his hand on to ward them off. In that process he was stabbed by one of them in the chest. Ian ran to the bedroom and there is where one of the male persons inflicted several; at least 3 stab wounds to Ian. He passed away shortly thereafter."

Courtney Weatherburne

"We understand that Mr. Blair usually goes to the doctor's house to help him out. Do you know of the history in terms of their relationship?"

Desiree Phillips - Assistant Commissioner of Police

"I wouldn't be able to comment on that. All I know is that; he said Blair was there with him, they were socializing with his friend, that's all I can say in that regard."

A television set was also stolen from the house but police recovered the TV and have detained 3 persons. Police are classifying this case as an aggravated burglary.
